Fabulous 1970s red jersey maxi dress by Loris Azzaro featuring a signature deep keyhole detail to the front neckline, embellished with diamanté crystals for a glamorous effect. These continue along the halter neck straps, which are adjustable and can be tied at the back of the neck at the desired length for the wearer. The straps can also go over the shoulder and be clipped to the centre back of the dress with their discreet hook and eye fastening for an alternative look. The bust is supported by an inner underwire bra, integral to the dress, with a strip of rubber coated fabric to ensure a secure fit. Cut from a striking tangerine/red polyamide fabric, with a central concealed original metal zip. The main body of the dress is cut slim through the torso and then flows down from the hip, creating a lovely feminine silhouette.
The gown is in wonderful vintage condition; on very close inspection we noted some very faint, barely discernible dots in one or two areas but these are only noticed with the dress in hand. They could never be seen when worn. A best fit for around a UK 6-8 or US 2-4 with some give in the stretch fabric. Loris Azzaro, whose simple and elegant lines came to epitomise the high end occasion wear of the era and were worn by Marisa Berenson, Jane Birkin (pictured here), Brigitte Bardot and Romy Schneider among others.
